The Lithuanian Quantum Technology Association announces that Vita Markevičiūtė will assume the role of association director effective 19 March 2025. According to the association board decision, Markevičiūtė, currently serving as the Science and Innovation Advisor at the Research Council of Lithuania, succeeds Dr. Tadas Paulauskas, who will continue contributing to the association's activities.
The new head of the association has so far actively contributed to projects in this area, including the Lithuanian Quantum Technology Agenda. She is also representing Lithuania in developing the implementation plan for the European Declaration on Quantum Technologies.
"In its first years, the Lithuanian Quantum Technology Association has actively laid the groundwork for a necessary quantum technology ecosystem, bringing together stakeholders from academia, the public sector, and industry. I extend my gratitude to Tadas Paulauskas for his instrumental role in establishing the association and ecosystem, and elevating Lithuania’s profile in the field of quantum technologies," said Gytis Umantas, President of the Lithuanian Quantum Technology Association.
He expressed confidence in Markevičiūtė’s leadership, stating, "Her knowledge and experience will propel the association forward, accelerating Lithuania’s progress in the field of quantum technologies."
Paulauskas supports this opinion: "In just over a year, we have united Lithuania’s quantum technology community and established a strategic roadmap for future development. I am confident that under Vita Markevičiūtė’s leadership, the association will continue this work successfully, and I look forward to participating in its ongoing initiatives."
Over the past year, the Lithuanian Quantum Technology Association has successfully convened representatives from academia, government, and industry to develop the country’s quantum technology agenda. This document outlines national priorities and opportunities for leveraging quantum technologies to enhance economic competitiveness, address national security challenges, and ensure sustainable technological growth. In February 2025, the association officially presented this agenda, along with recommendations for harnessing quantum advancements.
"As quantum technologies rapidly evolve, I firmly believe in Lithuania’s potential to actively participate in their development and widest possible application. I am committed to further strengthening our quantum ecosystem and expanding international partnerships to advance Lithuania’s position on the global quantum stage," said Vita Markevičiūtė, the newly appointed Director of the Lithuanian Quantum Technology Association.
Founded in 2023, the Lithuanian Quantum Technology Association aims to unite the expertise and resources of Lithuania’s top research institutions and industry leaders to drive quantum technology development and enhance international competitiveness.
Its full members include Vilnius University, the Centre for Physical Sciences and Technology of Lithuania, Novian Technologies, and Kaunas University of Technology, and associate members – natural and legal persons. The United Nations has designated 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, underscoring the global significance of advancements in this field.
